What is Composite Decking

What is Composite Decking?

Composite decking is an outdoor decking material that’s made using a mixture of wood fibre and plastic.

Think of composite deck boards as a crossbreed of synthetic decking and natural timber. By combining the authentic appeal of wood decking with the low-maintenance durability of plastic deck boards, composite products offer homeowners the best of both worlds!

DeckPlus Customer Reviews

DeckPlus Customer Reviews

Really happy we chose ReversaDek composite decking from DeckPlus. The deck has stood up well to the usual family activities - a quick jet wash brings it back to looking like new. Overall we are really happy with our finished deck.
Karl Marley, East Yorkshire
I absolutely love the decking! We get so many compliments and it is such good quality. I can’t fault anything at all. I would definitely recommend purchasing from DeckPlus - the company were a delight to communicate with.
Georgia, Newcastle
Fantastic from start to finish. My family are over the moon with the transformation - we knew from our initial enquiry we wouldn't have to look elsewhere. I'm looking forward to making the most of my retirement in our garden.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is composite decking slippery?
Not as slippery as wooden decking. All DeckPlus products are engineered to be as slip-resistant as possible. Unlike hardwood deck boards, our boards absorb very little water and dry out quickly.
What is composite decking made of?
A combination of natural wood fibre and synthetic materials. We think this blend makes composite decking the best of both worlds!
How much does DeckPlus composite decking cost?
Our decking products start at approximately £30 per square metre.
How long does composite decking last?
All DeckPlus products come with at least a 5-year warranty as standard. But our solid deck boards last far longer than that – some of them come with a 30-year warranty!
What is the difference between composite decking and plastic decking?
Composite decking has a much longer lifespan than plastic decking. Due to plastic decking being made of 100% synthetic material, it is much weaker and cannot withstand extreme temperatures.

Composite decking is made using a combination of wood fibre and synthetic materials, resulting in a more durable product that looks much closer to real wood.
Does DeckPlus composite decking fade over time?
No – our deck boards are fade and stain resistant, so they’ll keep their colour for years after they’re installed.
How do you clean composite decking?
Our low-maintenance deck boards are easy to clean. Use a broom to sweep away any debris, then scrub them with soapy water. A power washer can make the job quicker.
Does DeckPlus composite decking get hot?
No – DeckPlus boards are designed to stay cool to the touch even on hot summer days.
Is composite decking waterproof?
More so than other decking materials. DeckPlus composite decking absorbs very little moisture, so your deck shouldn’t be damaged by rain or accidental spills.
What is ‘capped’ composite decking?
Capped deck boards have a wrap-around polymer sleeve that keeps out moisture. This adds extra protection and allows you to wipe up spills with ease.
Is DeckPlus decking environmentally friendly?
Yes – we work hard to minimise our environmental impact. Our boards are made using reclaimed wood and recycled plastics that would otherwise have been sent to a landfill site, so if you want to use sustainable materials for your project, look no further than DeckPlus.
Do I need planning permission for my new deck?
No, you do not need planning permission for a garden deck as long as:
  • The decking is no more than 30cm (11.8 inches) above the ground
  • No more than 50% of your total garden area will be taken up by the deck and other outbuildings / extensions
  • No part of the deck is on land that is forward of the property’s ‘principal elevation’ (usually meaning the front of your house)
Some additional limitations may apply depending on your location. Visit the Planning Portal website for more information.
Can I install the decking myself?
Yes you can! DeckPlus composite decking is easy to install, and our handy installation resources will help you to achieve a professional finish. We can even provide all the clips, fasteners, joists, posts and screws you need to get the job done – check our Deck Fixings page for more information.
