Building a deck

If you're considering building a deck, then you may be wondering how much it will all cost.

Ultimately, the cost of building a deck depends on the size of the project and what materials you're using. It's also worth noting that DIY deck installation will take a few days of work.

Building a deck is a very exciting project to undertake - not only can a deck boost your property's value, it can also serve as an outdoor venue for social gatherings.

Deck installation: what do you need?

If you're planning to install your own deck, you will first need to purchase the right tools for the job. Here's a list of tools that will come in handy:

  • Cordless drill
  • Chalk line
  • Tape measure
  • Jig saw
  • Spirit level
  • Carpenter square
  • Spacing tool
  • Circular saw
  • Safety glasses

You will also need decking boards (obviously) as well as trim / edging boards, screws and clips. Our self-assembly decking kits include all of these essentials, and DeckPlus boards are easy to install using the tools listed above.

How much do decking boards cost?

Before you begin transforming your outdoor space, you will need to know how many decking boards you need and how much the whole lot will cost. Thankfully, our website has a handy decking calculator to help you do the maths.

At time of writing, our most expensive composite decking costs £77.05 per board. At the opposite end of the scale, our budget-friendly WeatherDek composite decking costs just £28.32 per board - perfect if you're on a budget but don't want to compromise on quality!

How to calculate the cost of composite decking boards

To calculate the total cost of your composite decking boards, you must first calculate the area of your deck. If you're using our decking calculator uses metres, simply enter the width and length of your deck in metres. Then we'll tell you how many boards you need to purchase for your project.

From this, you'll be able to estimate how much your composite decking boards will cost in total. To account for wastage, we suggest adding an extra 10% on top of what you need (you can toggle this option on / off on the product page).
